The Asymmetrical Dynamism of the Enneagram: The Mandala That Won’t Stay On the Page with Cynthia Bourgeault
Once again I’ll be joining the Global Enneagram Summit, coming right up June 11-15, 2018.
Somewhat to my amazement, since I don’t think of myself as primarily an Enneagram teacher, the talk I gave at last year’s summit turned out to be one of the more popular events of the conference, so I was invited back for 2018! I’m delighted to be joining my dear friends Russ Hudson and A. H. Almaas (and a stellar cast of others) for this five-day, “teach-in” event.
Three things you should know. First of all, it’s free. All you have to do is sign up. Second, it’s virtual. You don’t have to go anywhere in physical space/ time. Every event is available right on your computer. And third, no, you don’t have to do the whole thing. Participation is entirely voluntary. You can tune into the interviews you want, all of them graciously hosted by Summit moderator Jessica Dibbs. You can pick and choose among the talks or teachers you’re most interested in. But fair warning here: this year’s array really is so spectacular that the greater challenge may be to decide which talks NOT to listen to.
“My” first day is Wednesday, June 13. I’ll be giving a talk called “The Asymmetrical Dynamism of the Enneagram: The Mandala That Won’t Stay On the Page” to be aired at 1 pm Eastern time. A bit about the talk/interview: “As a symbol, the enneagram is jaggedly, dynamically asymmetrical. In its original iteration as a cosmic mandala, it depicts the intersection of the Law of Three and the Law of Seven, both of them odd numbers and both of them understood as innovative, dynamic, and symmetry-breaking. While we’re used to looking at the symbol as a closed circle on a two-dimensional plane, by the very nature of the dynamism coiled within it, it wants to jump of the page into 3-d, where it presents itself as a spiral rather than a closed circle, continuously generating new realms for exploration and creative expression. Working with the symbol in this way will open brand new dimensions for exploration and transformation, which run the gamut from healing of the personality, to cosmological convergence, to the love that runs the sun and stars.” I hope you’ll join me for this powerful conversation, hosted by Jessica Dibbs.
“My” second day is Friday, June 15 at 3pm Eastern time. I’ll be joining Russ Hudson, Terry Saracino, Sandra Maitri, and host Jessica Dibb to explore the topic “True Integration or Spritual Bypass?: Toward Real Emergent Awakening, Part 1 and Part 2.” We’ll delve into questions, such as:
- What is Integration?
- How does the Enneagram help us prevent spiritual bypassing, AND how can we misuse the Enneagram to spiritual bypass?
- How do we navigate the intensity of the real transformation of actualization and transformation?
- How do we cultivate true surrender to the Divine, and the work with the ego as a doorway to Awakening?
Fasten your seatbelts: the whole event looks to be simply spectacular. Enneagram pioneer Claudio Naranjo will illuminate the fixations of the various Enneagram types and offer ways to break out of those addictive behaviors so you can be free to be express your authentic Self. Russ Hudson will highlight the relationship between practice and intention, and receptivity and letting go (The Law of Three)—showing how these seemingly contradictory parts of us can come into balance and take us to the next stage of development. Helen Palmer will discuss the critical, empowering evolution of the Enneagram field—which is now ready for collaboration on a unified vision and effort—and steps for manifesting this vision. My brilliant friend and mentor, A.H. Almaas (Hameed Ali), will articulate qualities of nondual consciousness, and how it is can be lived and expressed in a human life. That’s quite the knock-out lineup! And this is only a small sampling of the brilliance and collective wisdom you will encounter.
As I said, the Summit is free. All you have to do is sign up. You can find the link to access the site HERE, then navigate around to see all the treasures to be found.
I’m hoping very much that you’ll join us for part or even all (!!!) of this global summit. Inspiring stuff here.
Thanks and blessings,
Cynthia comments on the Enneagram:
Many experts in the field believe that the Enneagram is about much more than merely finding a “personality type” to describe yourself. They maintain that the enneagram embodies in its design a fundamental reality about the nature of life; that we don’t live in a random universe. Here’s another way to describe one of the benefits to be gained from a deeper understanding of the Enneagram:
There is a pattern to life designed into the heart of all existence. When you are able to relax, open, soften and trust this pattern, you are carried in the flow of grace and mercy. The way forward may not be clear in advance. But, as you take the next step, the path opens and your feet know the way forward.
If you’re new to this ancient system, you’ll be guided to the trusted tests and practices for determining your individual type — including ways to differentiate between “look-alike” types.
If you’re already well-versed in the Enneagram, you’ll can take your understanding even deeper with some of the brightest minds in the field.
If any of this ignites curiosity and a desire to learn more, please join me and the amazing panel of other presenters for this lively and important event.
And see if you can guess my type 🙂
